Could a dancing/singing/acting class help improve my confidence and self esteem?
I used to take a combined acting/dancing/singing class, I never really took it seriously, it was just something I did for fun. I stopped doing it when I was 9 or 10 to pursue violin lessons (which I still do). And now I’m 13 and doing a music program at school. We have to do this stupid thing where we perform twice a term. I find myself so nervous I’m shaking. I have really low confidence and not very good self esteem.
I’m thinking of starting the singing/dancing/acting class again, except I’m a terrible, un-co-ordinated dancer. I’m quite okay at singing (they push it in the music program), and I’m not sure what I’m like at acting. Do you think it’s worth a go (considering I’m terrible at dancing), and do you think it will improve my confidence and self esteem?

I’d do it. I was kind of like you, did some choir things and kiddy plays when I was under 10 and then joined a choir at school but never took it seriously and never wanted to be heard, I was too shy. It wasn’t until I was 15 that I decided to audition for a musical at school and I used to get so nervous my whole body would shake, my voice would cut out and I’d be bright pink. I got the audition though, it was only one solo but I was really, really nervous. I coughed into the microphone on one of the nights. I had my skirt tucked in my underwear another night. I’m now 19 and have done some majorly embarrassing things on-stage but I love it. doing musical theatre has changed me so much, made me so much more confident and so much more proud of who I am. I suck at dancing absolutely and wish I’d done something like this to improve that when I was younger – I feel stupid starting now, I’m too old!
go for it, or you will regret it before you’re even 20 years old!
