What is your understanding of the meaning of Ephesians 5:13-14?
“But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.
Therefore He says:
‘Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.’”

I could show you the connections to Isaiah, but you already know that. You are probably also aware of the eschatology concerned with the “great and terrible day of the Lord”. Paul welds these messianic prophecies to the end of the age– all finding their fulfillment in Christ. We could discuss 1st century Jewish expectations and how God’s redemptive plan begun in Genesis, reiterated in the Law, and predicted by the prophets, is fulfilled in the Son. Life is Come! Death is vanquished and the saints of God cry out with the stones “Hosanna! Glory to God in the highest!” Ahh but you’ve already done that.
What this passage does for me (which I am experiencing as I write) is send me to Handel’s Messiah. Listening to the scriptures set to glorious music, my heart swells with joy, hope, and love. Bless you for asking this question.
