My Three Rules On How To Set Goals
Every new year is a good time to sit down and set goals for yourself or for your business. Goals are the backbone of life. It gives us direction and a sense of purpose. It keeps you on track and from straying from your destination. I came up with my three rules on how to set goals. I hope this will help you out as it helps me.
You have to be positive when you set your goals. This is very important. Always focus on the positive side of what you want. Don’t let any negative thoughts in. Write them down as positive as you can. Like instead of saying “By age 50, I will not have any physical deficiencies (negative),” you could say, “By age 50, I will still be in tip top shape (positive).” You will stay motivated by the positive way of thinking.
My number two rule is to be specific in what you set your goals at. Like don’t say “i want to a new job”, you say “I want to become an editorial at a fashion magazine.” If you don’t be specific you don’t have a commitment to the goals. You sell yourself short. And don’t settle for coming close to your goals. You are in this for the long haul. It is your life.
Number three rule is you think in the present tense. Subconscious plays a huge role when it comes to your goals coming true. So you write down your goals in present forms. Like “I am making it big in the industry”, not “I will make it big”. You push it away by saying “I will”. Setting goals are very important but setting them effectively is even more important. You have to be positive in your thinking and in your goals setting. Always write your goals down and say them through out the day.
