self esteem programs for children
What should I do regarding a teacher unfairly retaining my child?

My child has an individual education program (IEP) which has classroom modifications, which a amplified is documented to be used in the classroom. My child and other classmates reported to me that the amplier had not been used 3 quarters of the school year. The teacher has retained my child.

I had a meeting with the board, which said that teacher wasn’t wrong for not using the ampified system, after the teacher admitted to me and the principal that she wasn’t using the system.

My child scored a 5 on the state testing test (in which a 4 is required to pass to the next grade). School is not the only place that my child recieves a education, there’s home, sunday school and bible study, in which educator’s in those areas have no problem with my child behavior or academically.

What about the no child left behind act? Please help!!! My child’s educational value and self esteem is on the line here.

Thanks for your answers.

I would like to say that you should bring it up with the board, but as a teacher I think maybe it would be best to have your child retained. It may not have anything to do with your child’s behavior. Sometimes, the teacher just feels as if your child would not be able to handle the work load of the next level. Talk with the teacher and discuss his or her reasoning for this decision. Then, if you feel that the reasoning is ungrounded, take it up with the school board.
